The other day I was actually searching some of my friends’ email address on Facebook so that I can send them a proper invite to an event I’m having this weekend. What I discovered was that some of my friends had a “Facebook.com” email address and not another personal one, which is what I wanted. I didn’t think anything about it at first because I figured that they probably set it up like that. However, today I came across this LifeHacker article that says Facebook replaced your old email address with an @Facebook.com. So I went to my personal account and turns out that it’s true. I have a Facebook.com email address displayed on my contact information instead of the primary one.
The good thing is that its only the contact email that changed and not the one that you use to login to your account. Personally, I don’t like that Facebook changes things without my permission so it’s a big deal to me since I like receiving email rather than Facebook messages. So if you want to change your email back to how it was, do the following:
- Click “About” on your profile and scroll down to your email address. Click “Edit” to change them.
- Click on the circle next to your Facebook email address and change its setting to “Hidden From Timeline”.
- Click on the circle next to your other email addresses and change their settings to “Shown On Timeline”.
- Click the Save button at the bottom of the Edit popup (Don’t forget this step).
Thank you LifeHacker for bring this up.
Did you notice that your email address was replace with an @Facebook.com? How do you feel about Facebook changing your personal settings without your permission?
